Poser 14: Light It Right — A Clear Look at What’s New

Poser 14.0.439 marks a meaningful step forward for digital artists, bringing sharper realism, smarter tools, and a smoother creative experience across the board. This update focuses on the essentials that shape every render and every workflow: lighting that behaves more like the real world, pose tools that save time and preserve detail, and interface refinements that make daily work feel lighter and more intuitive.

Lighting & Rendering

Area Lights, Any Shape You Need
Poser now supports true geometric area lights including rectangle, square, circle, and ellipse emitters with each being scaled precisely in the property pane. These emitters produce soft, believable illumination that matches the physical shape of the light source.

True HDRI Environments, Done Right
HDRI maps now function as both lighting and background. They wrap your scene in a full spherical environment and offer clean, precise rotation from 0–360°, giving you accurate global illumination and intuitive control over the sky orientation.

PBSDF You Can Trust
Material stability gets a major boost. Roughness values no longer reset to zero when saving or undoing, and Specular IOR now defaults correctly to 0.5. Your materials remain exactly as you designed them.

Shadows That Behave
Shadow bias has been corrected, restoring accurate shadow lengths in Preview. GLSL output is now aligned with the classic shader system, giving you predictable, reliable shadow behavior.

Softer, Truer Infinite Light
Infinite lights gain a wider shadow‑blur radius, producing more natural outdoor and sunlight-style illumination.

Pose Workflow

Pose Saving, Rebuilt
Saving poses is now a one‑click operation with sensible defaults. A new Simple/Advanced subset mode lets you choose exactly what gets stored, while refined filters give precise control over transforms, scale, and rotation.

Now Save Poses for Props
Props can finally be included in pose files. Position, rotation, scale, morphs—and even animation—are preserved, making complex scene setups far easier to reuse.

Save More of Your Figure
You can optionally include visibility states, per‑actor Visibility and Lock flags, and hidden parameters. The dialog is faster, cleaner, and designed for high‑volume workflow

Physics, UI & Quality‑of‑Life

Physics Room Refinements
The Bullet cloth workflow becomes more manageable with a scrollable Properties tab and an improved cloth‑creator palette, making simulation setup easier to navigate.

Little Things That Add Up
Numerous small improvements enhance daily use.

- Pick lists remember their size and position
- Render-image scrolling is faster
- Notifications panel is tidied
- Focal‑distance indicator is more reliable

These subtle changes collectively streamline the interface.

Expanded Reference Manual

Documentation has been updated with a new Gobo Lights topic and corrected Dynamic Hair information, ensuring clearer guidance for both lighting and hair simulation workflows.
