The easiest way to pose a figure is to use the Editing tools as described in The Editing Tools. The part will move based on the part selected, your currently selected Editing tool, your camera angle, and whether or not IK is enabled. You can also use the parameter dials on the Parameters palette to precisely move parts. Most poses are created using the Editing tools to get the rough position followed by the parameter dials for fine adjustments.
